Honda is stealing the show when it comes to safety. An incredible six Honda models have earned top ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The latest is the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe, which was named a Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with Honda Sensing™ [1]. This is the highest rating available from the IIHS. Standard on the Civic Touring Coupe, Honda Sensing is a comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistive technology that works to reduce the potential for collision and mitigate severity in the event that a collision does occur.

Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division, was excited about the automaker’s latest accomplishment, saying “We're proud to add the 2016 Civic Coupe to a growing family of Honda vehicles that employ our Honda Sensing technology and earn top crash safety ratings. Honda Sensing and systems like it are changing the conversation around vehicle safety performance from crash protection to crash avoidance, and we will continue to expand Honda Sensing to additional models as we work toward our vision for a collision-free society."

Of course, this impressive accolade from IIHS isn’t solely based on Honda Sensing. The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe makes greater use of high-strength steel and advanced crash engineering features. These include the Honda next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, a new crash stroke front frame structure, and tailor-tempered B-pillars and rear frame structures, all of which go a long way toward keeping occupants safe. Standard passive safety features like a new safety vent airbag for the front passenger, SmartVent® front side curtain airbags, and side curtain airbags with rollover sensor play a pivotal role as well.
